Juniors at the Surrey XC Champs
Posted by James Desmond on 8 January 2018
It was a beautiful day at Denbies on the first Sunday of 2018 for the Surrey County Championships. The terrain and footing were challenging, but they were perfect conditions for the racing bringing out excellent performances throughout by our team of 14 juniors.
For many of our young athletes it was the first time racing in a majot event, and it is really pleasing to report that everyone enjoyed experience and I believe took away positive memories from the day. It's also worth noting that a number of our group were not feeling 100% but great credit to each of them for toughing it out and finishing as certainly was not easy going out there with the standard extremely high in all categories.
The honour of the day of being the highest placed finisher goes to Dan Levine in the U13 boys race with an excellent 13th place from the field of over 100 boys. He led his team of Archie Austin, George Turner and Harvey Hutchison to record a very creditable 10th placed team in this most competitive categories.
Most of the team had been trained over the course the preceding weekend, and this session was not only a lot of fun but it was also very beneficial in their preparation for the big race.
