Juniors at South of England Championships
Posted by James Desmond on 28 January 2018
It was a tremendous day of high quality racing on the South Downs on the final Saturday of January. Young athletes from as far as Cornwall to Suffolk travelled to test themselves in this classic contest, and the standard seems to get higher each year. This is I think my favourite XC course – yes it is hilly and a tough place to run, but it’s nice varied course, it has plenty of spaces to overtake, the underfoot conditions are usually good and the organisation is faultless.
We had 9 juniors racing, and for many this was the biggest event and the highest level race they have competed in and so huge credit to everyone for doing so well.
Harvey had his best XC race of the season and put in a great battling run in the thick of the action in this most competitive of categories.
Spencer again takes the honours of recording the lowest finish position, and was closely followed home by Joe who seems to be getting stronger each race.
Kieran and Ben had a lot of fun in the longest of the junior races trading places on the way around with both finishing in very respectable mid-field positions.
