2021 Wedding Day 7k Cancelled

An update from the organising team behind the Stragglers Wedding Day 7k.
“Following Monday’s Government announcement not to lift restrictions until the middle of July we have decided not to hold the Wedding Day 7K (Friday July 30). We recognise that by the end of July it may be possible to hold a normal event, but as we stand here and now we can’t be certain that the race will not be subject to some restrictions which we feel will diminish the spirit of the whole evening.
While our survey showed some enthusiasm for a race that just consisted of the race (Turn up – Run – Go Home) the WD7K committee felt the possible restrictions that might still be in place could cause runners and general members of the public some concern. This dampened our enthusiasm as we also wanted to mark the 40th edition of the event with something that was not diminished from the race we know and love.
There were a few other things but for brevity we’ll leave it at this and say that we look forward to seeing you on Friday July 29th 2022 for the 40th running of the Wedding Day 7K.”
The Stragglers would like to thank the team behind this hugely popular event, Keith Haworth, Mark Thomas, Lynda Pile, Simon Brazil and Peter Thompson (not forgetting the famous Father Onn of course), and we’re very grateful for their efforts in trying to find a solution which would have seen the Wedding Day take place.
