Cabbage Patch 4 - Boxing Day 2017
Posted by Alan Mawdsley on 28 December 2017
85 people enjoyed a festive run in the Cabbage Patch 4 on Boxing Day, an event that is an essential and enjoyable part of the Stragglers Christmas tradition. Many thanks to everyone involved in making this happen, especially Keith Haworth and daughter Gemma for their work organising, and to Simon Brazil who once again was out early marking the course. Grateful thanks to perennial supporters Malcolm Ellis and Frank Dupree, Paul Hutchings and Leo Hutchings. Thanks also to our on the day Marshals Dave Papworth, Roy Reeder, Kathryn Curtis Tyler and Sue Howarth with sincere apologies to anyone that may have been overlooked.
As always, it is the competitors who create the wonderful and special atmosphere of friendship and fun filled Christmas spirit each year. Ollie Garner was the winner. Heidi Russenberger was First Lady and 10th overall. Kieran Desmond was First Junior - and 4th finisher. The "golden shoe" (a performance award chosen by the organisers) went to Kirsty Bangham - a popular choice. Full results and other age group winners are here.
Donations at the event will be given to the Hampton Fuel Allotment Charity (www.hfac.co.uk} which is the major beneficiary from the 2017 Wedding Day 7k Race. We are delighted to say that all the monies donated at the CP4 this year have raised a sum of £174.00 (one hundred and seventy four pounds) and we thank everyone firstly for their support for the event and secondly for their generosity.
Finally we would like to thank once again the wonderfully generous and charismatic Stuart and his staff at the Cabbage Patch. Stuart is not only a great pub manager but also the events benefactor. Many of you will be aware that nothing ever seems too much to Stuart and he not only provides our winners prizes but creates for us a unique venue with a genuine atmosphere of bonhomie.
We look forward to seeing everyone again at next years Boxing day Cabbage Patch 4.
