At the South of the Thames XC on 26/11/16, our combined total runners constituted more than 10% of the field and outnumbered every other club there. Well done!
Stragglers Ladies and Men fielded a very impressive 35 on the start line, at the South of the Thames 5 mile cross country event at Polesden Lacey held on 26th November. Stragglers constituted more than 10% of the field and again for this season, outnumbered every other club there.
As well as a very tough course, the South of the Thames events also attracts some of the best clubs in the South East including Belgrave Harriers and Kent AC. These are some of the best clubs around and several steps ahead of the Surrey League divisions we are currently in. Taking this into account we certainly held our own. The Stragglers ladies ‘A’ team finished just above mid table, 9th out of 21 teams. This was a pleasing result when you consider that we finished ahead of traditionally strong clubs including Guildford & Godalming AC, Herne Hill Harriers, Dorking & Mole Valley and local rivals Wimbledon Windmilers.
The top placed Straggs Men team finished 18 out of 37 teams. Again the men managed to push Wimbledon Windmilers and Dorking & Mole Valley AC down the pecking order on the day. There is a separate prize for the first 8 men from each team ‘The Brent Shield’ and the Stragglers men were 9th out of 15 teams but beating both Croydon clubs, Croydon Striders and Croydon Harriers ,which is a nice change!
So all in all a very satisfying day, setting us up well for the rest of the season.
The Stragglers results can be found here. and the full results here
The next South of the Thames event is on the 17th December!.
