Stragglers AGM Elects Committee and Presents Club Contribution Awards
Posted by Simon Webb on 24 September 2021
The 2021 Stragglers AGM was held on Thursday September 23rd at the Bushy Park Sports Club.
An important part of the evening is the election of the committee for the coming year and a moment to recognise the contribution of some key figures in the club with special awards.
No members of the committee stood down and we welcomed one new name to the team.
The Stragglers therefore continue to be led by our experienced Chair Kevin Price, with the full committee as follows:
Officer roles:
Chair: Kevin Price
Secretary: Dave Griffiths
Treasurer: Phil Hall
Club Captain: Phil Davies
Other Committee Members:
Simon Brazil - Men's Team Manager
Donovan Duffy – Men’s Team Captain/Assistant Manager
Kev Best – Head of Performance (for both Ladies and Men’s teams)
Helene Hill – Women’s Team Manager
Alan Mawdsley - Web Manager
Julie Holmes - Membership Secretary
Simon Webb - Communications Secretary
Anne Woods – Little Feet representative
Andy Howarth – Summer Grand Prix Captain
New Committee member
Emily Wattret – Emily has been helping with the club’s comms for the past year and will continue to work with our web and club communications group as we plan the next phase of our web and digital presence.
After many years of service Jim Sell stepped down as Honorary Auditor and we are pleased to welcome Steve Smith to the role.
We were also very pleased to make Jim our latest Life Member of the Stragglers.
The recipient of this year’s Outstanding Contribution Award has been a member of The Stragglers for almost thirty years and, as well as being a very strong and speedy runner in his younger years, has been an integral part of our race organising teams, especially the Wedding Day 7k race. He has also provided invaluable services to the club through his race timing company, Sports Systems but most of all, he has been a fantastic running colleague and friend to many of us over his Straggler years. To coincide with his decision to relocate to South Wales, the club would like to mark the brilliant contribution that Mark Thomas has made to our club with the presentation of this year’s Outstanding Club Contribution Award.
During the AGM, a motion was passed that the Club should use the term “Women” rather than “Ladies” to refer to adult female members. This brings the Club into line with the vocabulary used by England Athletics and is aimed at official communications from the Club and the website.
