Stragglers to Adopt Bushy Park Sports Club as New HQ
Posted by Simon Webb on 24 September 2021
At the 2021 Stragglers AGM, held on Thursday September 23rd, the membership voted to adopt Bushy Park Sports Club to be our new club headquarters. This follows a consultation period and a number of trial nights at the venue. You can read more on how this decision was reached below but this page also gives you key links and information to help you as we implement this move.
Visit the Bushy Park Sports Club website for a map and directions.
Thursday evening group runs now meet at our new home at 7pm. Currently we’re offering runs between 4 and 9 miles, plus a walking group, Showers, food and a bar are available afterwards in the BPSC clubhouse.
To help caterers get used to the numbers we are asking you to let us know if you plan to attend and what your food preferences are. This form remains the same every week so whenever you decide you are going to attend the following Thursday, please fill it out.
The results of the vote were:
- For - 63
- Against - 0
- Abstain - 4
This follows the consultation which saw 92.5% of 188 respondents indicating they were in favour of this proposal.
Approval of this move also covers the following:
- A six-month review of the arrangements with BPSC in March 2022, and six-monthly reviews thereafter;
- The agreement to increase club subs to £20 from 1 April 2022 and then £25 from 1 April 2023;
- A commitment to continue a relationship with The Hawker Centre especially around our established races like The River Relay and The Green Belt Relay;
- A commitment from the Committee to make the new HQ work for us in all areas as a running club.
We look forward to working with Bushy Park Sports Club and the Stragglers membership to realise the many benefits we believe this move will bring for both the training and social sides of the club.
We would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to share their views and hope you will continue to do so. Any change presents challenges and this is no exception. It’s vital club members give us feedback both positive and negative, as we work to make this a valuable, welcoming and enjoyable home for the Stragglers.
Please see Stragmail, our Facebook page and this website for updates on how we will manage this transition.
